On the morning of May 13th, at Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port (Nha Be district), Phu Quoc High-Speed Ferry Joint Stock Company (the investor) officially launched the fixed route between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao using a "super" ferry with a capacity of over 1,000 passengers, shortening the travel time to just 4 hours.
The ferry departs from Hiep Phuoc Port (Ho Chi Minh City) at 7:00 AM and arrives at Ben Dam Port (Con Dao) at 11:30 AM. The journey takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes, about an hour faster than previous high-speed ferries.
This is currently the largest high-speed passenger ferry in Vietnam, measuring over 77 meters in length and approximately 9.5 meters in width, with a speed of 35 nautical miles (over 60 km) per hour. The ship can operate in winds up to Beaufort scale 8, reducing seasickness and ensuring passenger safety. Completely newly built to European standards, the ship has a capacity of 1017 passengers and is fully equipped with amenities such as premium seating, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a restaurant. Ticket prices range from 615,000 VND to 1.1 million VND per person per trip, depending on the class of seat.
The Saigon-Con Dao high-speed ferry has scheduled its first trip.
The passenger compartments are located on decks 1, 2, and 3, with leather-upholstered seats. Above the seats are compartments for storing life vests. Each deck is equipped with a TV, restrooms, a fire safety system, and surveillance cameras. Additionally, there is a premium area within the ship's cabins with more spacious and private seating.
Each row of seats has curtains and power outlets. The top deck is a coffee and dining area, with long rows of tables for passengers to relax or work. All decks of the high-speed train have outdoor spaces for passengers to enjoy the view.
In addition to the aforementioned route, Ho Chi Minh City previously had high-speed boats from the city center and sea ferries from Can Gio to Vung Tau. According to the plan for developing passenger transport and waterway tourism from now until 2025, the city plans to invest in two more inner-city routes, including from District 1 to District 7 and Nha Be, and from Bach Dang Wharf to Thanh Da.
