The China-Laos tourist train officially begins its journey.

On May 8, 2024, the first tourist train connecting China and Laos officially departed from Guiyang city, Guizhou province, China, heading towards Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

The train, which departed from Guiyang station in China on May 8th with 240 tourists, arrived in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, for an 8-day tour exploring the famous destinations of the Land of a Million Elephants.

After traveling from Guizhou to Xishuangbanna, Yunnan province, tourists were transferred to a Lao-China high-speed train to reach the capital city of Vientiane.

The tour itinerary for Laos includes famous tourist destinations in the ancient capital of Luang Prabang, the town of Vang Vieng in Vientiane province, and the capital city of Vientiane. Initially, the tourist train is planned to run regularly once a month. The number of trains will be increased depending on the specific needs of passengers.

The Laos-China international passenger train service has commenced operations.

Trains bringing tourists from Southeast Asian countries to Guizhou will also be implemented in the near future. This event is considered a significant milestone in tourism cooperation between China and Laos. It encourages two-way tourism, contributes to boosting the economies of both countries, and opens opportunities for tourists to explore new destinations and experience the unique cultures of China and Laos.

Previously, Yunnan, Hubei, and Beijing provinces had launched similar tourism products to Laos via the Laos-China railway system.

According to statistics from the beginning of the year to May 6th, more than 1 million passengers have completed immigration procedures between China and Laos, an 89% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This is a record for the shortest time ever to reach 1 million passengers.
