On the morning of September 26th, the Kien Giang Inland Waterway Port Authority announced that due to adverse weather conditions, the Kien Giang sea area experienced gusts of wind at levels 7 and 8; offshore waves were approximately 2 meters high, causing all ferry and speedboat services from Rach Gia City and Ha Tien City to Phu Quoc City, and from Rach Gia City to Nam Du Island, to be temporarily suspended.
The high-speed ferry service from Rach Gia City to Hon Son Island (Kien Hai District) is still operating normally, serving tourists traveling to the island.
Ferry services to Phu Quoc have been temporarily suspended due to bad weather.
According to reporters' observations, at 8 am, at the Rach Gia City ferry terminal, tourists were turning back to go home, while locals were carrying goods such as fruits, cakes, rice, etc., to wait for the ferry to return.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, residing in Vinh Thanh ward (Rach Gia), said that her son's family in Nam Du has a small business. Today, she bought fruit, mooncakes, rice, and some other necessities to send to her son on the island to sell.
"Due to bad weather, the ferry service has stopped, so I hired a truck to transport my goods back home to Rach Gia. I hope the ferry service resumes tomorrow because this fruit will spoil if left for too long," said Mrs. Hoa.
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Da, director of the Kien Giang Inland Waterway Port Authority, the unit will continuously update the weather situation. If the weather is stable, they will announce when ships can resume operations to serve passengers and local people.
