Healing through travel?

10/08/2022

Being busy is like a whirlwind that sweeps away all other pleasures, just as sadness can't heal our wounds.

After a long, hectic day at work, we follow the crowds of people heading home along the narrow streets. This is perhaps one of the few moments of leisure amidst the hectic work of the year. Reflecting on recent joys, you suddenly realize that your life revolves solely around career happiness—like salary increases, promotions, job changes... Busyness, like a whirlwind, sweeps away all other pleasures, and sadness, though it can't heal our wounds.

Businesswoman Helly Tong, musician Duc Thinh, and travel blogger Tam Bui discuss healing tourism.

In episode 2 of the Di-Dịch podcast, "Healing Through Travel," Helly Tong shared the following: "People often say they go to Da Lat when they're too stressed. Because Da Lat is in the mountains and has more trees and fewer houses. But when I ask people if they feel less stressed after the trip, they usually say no. So the problem isn't in the physical place, but in the non-physical place."

The joys lie beneath white clouds and blue skies, gazing at silver waterfalls and gently sloping hills, letting oneself be carried away by the cool breeze and the rustling of leaves; sometimes, it's simply the soft blankets and pillows that envelop us for a brief moment. Sometimes, we need to sit down and reflect to look deeply into our own problems.

Musician Duc Thinh also shared on the Di-Dich Podcast, episode 2: "Music and travel are essentially healing. We feel like we've lost something and we need to travel to heal... At first, we need new sources of energy, new places, but when we're strong enough, we look inward."

Travel is a great catalyst for personal healing, but it's not entirely enough for healing from within. So how can travel help us get off to the perfect start in our healing journey?
