Impressive series of activities in the Vietnamese - French designer fashion season

On September 20, the French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City announced the Cultural Activities Program for Season 2 in 2023 with the theme "Fashion and Design". The program is part of a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between Vietnam and France, jointly organized by the French Embassy in Vietnam, the French Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the French Institute in Vietnam and many partners of the two countries.

In the first half of 2023, season 1 with the theme of "cuisine" was extremely successful with many interesting and useful events such as discussions on the exchanges and influences between French and Vietnamese cuisine, wine, history of bread, diplomatic cuisine, coffee and cocoa... Through this series of activities, the audience had the opportunity to learn more about the quintessence of French cuisine, meet famous people as well as experts to discuss and share the common passion for cuisine of both countries.

In season 2, the French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to honor the French art of living with its profound imprints in Vietnamese culture, through the theme "Fashion and Design".

Fashion & Design Season

From June to December, the French Institute in Ho Chi Minh City will organize a series of events “Fashion and Design” with prestigious French partners: major French fashion and perfume brands, the French Fashion Institute, the French Federation of Fashion and Haute Couture… All the big names in the French fashion industry, in the field of training as well as the creative industry, will be present in Vietnam.

Throughout the Fashion & Design Season is a series of discussions on high fashion, sustainable fashion, eco-friendly design, perfumes… This is an opportunity for the public to meet the leading names in each field.

Starting with the “Vietnam Fashion” seminar in September, with the content “French imprint in Vietnamese fashion”, through which, the public had the opportunity to learn about the history and development journey of Vietnamese fashion, as well as the influence of France on this field, from the modernization of traditional women's costumes (Ao Dai) to the great designers today.

Following in November with the “Sustainable Fashion” and “Green Fashion” Seminars, addressing issues of global sustainable fashion, the importance of materials of natural origin, ecological design, the promoting role of French companies in this field, and good consumer trends that need to be popularized in Vietnam.

Closing the series of talks in December with the content “Scents & Inventors”, with discussions on the history and influence of French perfumes in the world, questions about professions and training related to the perfume industry and finally the development of perfumes in the Vietnamese market.

Accompanying the series of talks is the French Fashion Film Festival taking place from November 16 to 19. A wide variety of films on the theme of fashion and perfume will be screened at IDECAF with Vietnamese subtitles. Some of the titles that will be screened are “Les Trésors de la Parfumerie française”, “Cartier, the petite boîte rouge”, “Isabel Marant, naissance d'une collection”, “Jean-Paul Gaultier, défilé”, “Qui êtes-vous, Polly Maggoo ?, de William Klein”, “Haute Couture, de Sylvie Ohayon”...

From June to October, the "Fashion in Paris" competition is held for young talents in the fashion design industry of Vietnam. The jury of the competition includes big names in the French-Vietnamese fashion industry to select the 8 best contestants for the final round. The final night will be a fashion show at the French Palace, where each contestant will present their ideas to the judges.

The top 3 finalists will have the opportunity to present their collections to the public at the “Fashion Night” event taking place on the evening of October 21 at the Sofitel Hotel. The prize for the winner will be an all-expenses-paid haute couture training trip to Paris in 2024.

Throughout the event night, there will be fashion shows interspersed with expert presentations on various fashion topics: the French haute couture industry, the development of the Vietnamese market for French luxury goods, fashion training in France, digital transformation in the fashion industry in France and in Vietnam...
