"Mai Thu: The Return to Mâcon of a Multitalented Artist" is a 17-minute documentary film, directed and produced by Elsa Gonzalez and Mai-Thu Suite. The film was made as part of the exhibition "Mai Trung Thứ (1906-1980), the echo of a dream Vietnam".(French: Mai-Thu, écho d'un Vietnam rêvé)- A solo exhibition by artist Mai Trung Thứ, held from June to October 2021, was jointly organized by the Ursulines Museum (Mâcon) and the Cernuschi Museum.
This exhibition recreated Mai Trung Thu's artistic journey in chronological order, and it was also the first time an exhibition had showcased previously unreleased works by the talented artist, featuring nearly 140 paintings in oil, watercolor, drawing, photographs, and lithographs.

A graduate of the first class of the Indochina Fine Arts School, Mai Trung Thu was "one of the first painters to integrate Vietnamese painting with modern trends." His works are a perfect blend of Eastern and Western traditions. Mai Trung Thu created a fusion style that both reflected his Asian origins and style while captivating an international audience.

Recently, many works by Mai Trung Thu have been auctioned for very high prices, especially "Portrait of Miss Phuong" - a work created by the artist in 1930, which was sold for a record price of 24.3 million Hong Kong dollars (over 70.5 billion VND) at Sotheby's Hong Kong auction house in April this year, becoming the highest publicly auctioned work in the history of Vietnamese art.
Another work by Mai Trung Thu - the lacquer painting "Woman by the River" - will also be offered for sale at Sotheby's Hong Kong in a live auction at 2 PM on December 14th, with an estimated price of 5-7 million Hong Kong dollars (approximately 14-21 million VND).
