Create Hong Kong hosts a gathering of Vietnamese designers and filmmakers to promote the development of creative industries, preparing for groundbreaking fashion shows in conjunction with the opening of Hong Kong Fashion Design Week (HKFDW) in late 2024.

Create Hong Kong (abbreviated as CreateHK) is a specialized office in the fields of fashion, film, and media established by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China).

Elevating Hong Kong fashion design

During an intimate meeting and experience exchange with young designers in Hanoi, Mr. Gary Mak - Representative of CreateHK shared: "Today, young designers are recognized as pioneers, because they are the source of great contributions, helping the fashion industry become more and more new and diverse. It can be said that designers are the ones who create living trends for young people around the world, from the creations of individuals but are strongly welcomed and spread because these designs bear a very unique local mark."

Mr. Gary Mak hopes that the meeting will be a convergence point, connecting famous designers in Vietnam with prestigious fashion businesses in Hong Kong (China). This is also a great opportunity for the units to understand each other's potential and strengths.

Speaking at the program, Mr. Gary Mak shared his impression of Vietnam's Ao Dai, a potential symbol of Vietnamese fashion, due to its many similarities with traditional costumes of Hong Kong and China. Hong Kong's unique position as a center of East-West cultural exchange will bring opportunities for collaboration and creativity for Vietnamese fashion designers.

The Hong Kong Fashion Week (HKFDW) is expected to be held annually from 2024 onwards. Through this, HKFDW will bring together different fashion design events, held at different times of the year, incorporating innovative elements for and creating activities to promote linkages.

Led by CreateHK and in collaboration with industry leaders and trendsetters, HKFDW aims to foster a vibrant ecosystem for creativity, business development and cultural exchange. This major event builds on CreateHK’s successful track record of sponsoring various prestigious fashion events: including CENTRESTAGE, one of Asia’s largest fashion showcases and promotions, Hong Kong Fashion Summit, a regional platform for sustainable fashion events, and Fashion Asia Hong Kong, a programme that brings together designers, industry leaders and experts to inspire collaboration, creativity and dialogue.

Bringing together established and emerging designers, international buyers and fashion enthusiasts, HKFDW promises a dynamic programme with runway shows, industry talks and networking opportunities.
