Modern life with its hustle and bustle of work makes time for taking care of people's health become limited. According to the Gallup Global Emotions Report 2023, 44% of adults in the world experienced high levels of stress for most of the previous day. In Asia alone, this number is even higher, with 87% of working people living in a state of chronic stress.
Therefore, wellness travel has become a prominent trend in the global tourism industry. According to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the industry will grow by an average of 21% per year from 2020 to 2025, reaching a value of 651 billion USD in 2022 and is expected to exceed 1,100 billion USD in 2025. This trend is further promoted as more and more professionals, leaders and urban middle class choose wellness travel as a way to take care of their mental health, restore their physical condition and recharge their energy, instead of simply for rest or entertainment.
Wellness travel is a trend that is increasingly gaining attention globally.
In that context, Taiwan is considered a new destination with great potential for wellness tourism development in the Asian region. At the “Yen” event, Mr. Derek Chou - Chief Representative of Taiwan Tourism Bureau in Vietnam introduced the unique advantages that help this place increasingly attract tourists looking for a resort experience combined with intensive health care.
The "Yen" event, organized by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in collaboration with Travellive Media Group, took place at the Hilton Saigon Hotel on the afternoon of May 20, 2025.
According to Mr. Chou, Taiwan has more than 100 natural hot spring areas, diverse in mineral composition and terrain. Many famous hot spring areas such as Beitou are located near the center of Taipei city, making it easy for tourists to access without having to travel far. Not only has the advantage of natural resources, Taiwan also stands out with its therapeutic tourism models combining Eastern and Western medicine. Many spas and health resorts here have a team of Eastern medicine doctors who directly consult before performing acupressure, massage, and physical therapy treatments - a model that is not yet popular in many other countries in the region.

In addition, Taiwan is also highly appreciated by WHO for the quality and cost of its healthcare system. Environmental hygiene and personal safety are also focused on improving here, suitable for groups of female tourists traveling alone or the elderly. With reasonable service costs, many direct flights from Vietnam, and favorable visa policies, Taiwan is becoming more and more accessible to Vietnamese tourists. Tourists can also combine a variety of experiences from relaxation, exploring nature, enjoying cuisine to shopping in just a short trip, thanks to the compact but rich terrain of this island. The above factors combined also help Taiwan become an ideal destination for the new trend of "wellness + work + solo travel" (solo health care tourism combined with remote work).
Taiwan has many unique advantages that help it stand out in the wellness tourism market compared to other countries in Asia.
During the event, Mr. Derek Chou continued to share: “Vietnam is a key market for Taiwanese tourism in Southeast Asia. In 2024, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Taiwan reached nearly 490,000 – the third highest in ASEAN. We hope to continue to facilitate businesses to connect with new products, especially themed tours, new resort destinations suitable for young customers, family groups and high-end customers.”
As the fifth event in the “Days of Wonder” series, “Yen” continues the success of previous events “Dai Cac” (Ho Chi Minh City), “Xuan Dai Nha Tap” (Hanoi), “Lam Dai Mien Vien” (Da Nang) and “Dai Uyen” (Hanoi). This series of events is implemented with the continuous support of Taiwanese airlines such as EVA Air, China Airlines and STARLUX Airlines.
The event is part of the "Days of Wonder" series of activities to promote Taiwan tourism with the continuous support of Taiwanese airlines.
Inspired by peace and relaxation, the theme “Peace” this time evokes the spirit that Taiwan tourism is aiming for – delicate journeys, deeply connecting people, culture and nature.
This event was attended by representatives from more than 50 Vietnamese enterprises and many multi-industry partners, creating a space for exchange, sharing and B2B connection to expand many cooperation opportunities. The program was organized with the support of Hilton Saigon Hotel - the venue sponsor.
Through “Yen”, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau hopes to continue expanding connections with Vietnamese businesses, while introducing the image of a gentle yet profound Taiwan, an ideal destination for those seeking rest, recovery and new inspiration in modern life.
