Minh Diep, a travel blogger currently living and working in Saigon. She has traveled to 30 countries across 4 continents. In each country, she learns about the unique cultural experiences of that land. Her trip to Ladakh (India) this time had many interesting experiences, one of which was riding a camel in the beautiful Nubra Valley.
Minh Diep just had a camel riding experience in Nubra Valley
Coming to Ladakh without visiting Nubra Valley is the biggest regret of the trip. The land of many colors with the white of snow, the ivory white of sand dunes, the magical blue of the sky and the intense green of the treetops growing in the middle of the cold desert...
150 km north of Ladakh capital, Nubra is the most fertile valley in the whole Ladakh region with Diskit village as its center. Nubra has many camping sites for tourists. However, there is no electricity or wifi. But you can admire the breathtaking landscapes and experience the feeling of living peacefully in the vast nature.
Nubra Valley is an ideal place to fit in the acclimatization schedule of your Ladakh trip.
Located at an altitude of 3,000 m above sea level, Nubra Valley is one of the must-see attractions in Ladakh - a vast land known as India's Little Tibet. Soaring mountain ranges, colorful trails... and unique cultural features in the lives of the people have a strong attraction for tourists.
Minh Diep's camel ride started in Leh at 9:30 am, crossing Khardung La pass - the highest pass in the world to reach Nubra valley. This is a valley of majestic and charming beauty. There are rivers, snow-capped mountains and sand dunes.

Camels are gathered ready for tourists to choose from to explore the Nubra valley.
“The special thing about riding a camel here is that it is very interesting because other places are usually hot deserts - where the climate is hot all year round. In Nubra, this is the first time I have crossed a cold desert terrain with such low temperatures. In early October, the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius during the day and drops to nearly 0 degrees Celsius at night,” Minh Diep said.
Fortunately, Minh Diep did not have much difficulty adapting to the climate and altitude in the Ladakh region during the trip. However, many of her friends still suffered from altitude sickness (vomiting, difficulty breathing, diarrhea).
There are many sharp and winding roads that not only make you prone to motion sickness but also require you to breathe with an oxygen tank due to altitude shock.
In addition, the road through the mountain passes was quite bad and her group encountered snow and rain which made the road slippery and difficult to travel. Going down the mountain passes was quite scary.
In return, all the fatigue will disappear when she witnesses the beautiful roads, the majestic mountains, or the strange dark gray Shyok River... along the way. More importantly, the feeling of riding a camel in the picturesque landscape surrounded by majestic mountains is an experience that she will always remember during this trip to Ladakh.
Camel riding in the valley
Minh Diep also gave some notes to tourists when they come to experience camel riding across the desert in Nubra Valley. Camel riding tickets have many prices depending on the duration of the ride. Her group bought a ticket of 350 rupees (about 100,000 VND) to ride a camel for 15 minutes. Morning camel riding hours are from 9am to 12pm and afternoon from 3:30pm to 7pm. Tourists should pay attention to the time when arriving to have a complete trip.
The weather here is quite cold, especially in the mountain pass and lake areas. You need to prepare thermal clothing, facial and body moisturizers to avoid dry skin. In addition, you need to prepare a compact Go Pro to be able to record beautiful and memorable moments.

Sharing his experience of this trip to Ladakh with Travellive, Minh Diep said: “I really like the YOLO lifestyle - you only live once in your life. So open your heart to accept a new challenge and experience every day. The camel trip in the cold desert is a very interesting experience of a lifetime in Ladakh that you should not miss if you have the opportunity to come to this sacred land.”
