Recently, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Binh district, stated that six households from Duc Trong district (Lam Dong province) have illegally encroached on forest land and the national highway corridor to build structures, totaling over 6,400 hectares.
Land encroachment, excavation of mountains, and leveling for the construction of shops and restaurants are affecting traffic on the pass. The risk of landslides and damage to the pass road during the rainy season is also very high. Furthermore, the construction of temporary structures for tourists to sit, drink, take photos, and admire the view from above poses potential dangers.
A large, illegally constructed rest stop stands right in the safety corridor of National Highway 28B.
On August 5th, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province sent an urgent dispatch requesting Bac Binh district and relevant departments to inspect and strictly handle violations.
To date, one household that encroached on protected forest land to build a livestock farm has dismantled its structure and rectified the situation. However, five rest stops on protected forest land along the Luỹ River, within the Đại Ninh hydroelectric power plant corridor, still remain.
The precarious construction of the rest stop poses a danger to tourists and locals.
These illegal rest stops will be forcibly removed no later than December.
Mr. Tam stated that recently, while preparing for the enforcement action, the District People's Committee discovered some errors made by relevant agencies in the process of drafting the minutes and issuing the penalty decisions, requiring further verification. "The enforcement action against these rest stops must be completed by the end of December at the latest," Mr. Tam said.
Dai Ninh Pass is located on National Highway 28B, connecting Binh Thuan and Lam Dong provinces. The pass is 12 km long with many dangerous, winding sections, and has been the site of numerous tragic accidents.
