30/11/2018

One day, unexpectedly, autumn arrived in Da Lat, gently infusing the grass, trees, and flowers with its fragrant breeze. Walking along the roads near Bao Dai Palace or the Mimosa Pass, the branches laden with ripe persimmons are covered in a dazzling orange hue, a truly captivating sight. Da Lat becomes even more enchanting during the persimmon ripening season.

Autumn brings the color orange…

The persimmon season in Da Lat begins in mid-September, but it's not until the end of November or the beginning of December that the persimmon trees start shedding their leaves, gradually revealing branches laden with fruit. This is also the time when tourists can visit the orchards and pick ripe persimmons themselves.

The most famous fruit of Da Lat is undoubtedly the crunchy persimmon. The crunchy persimmon is a special gift from nature to this land, as it requires little care, is unaffected by rain or wind, and is not picky about soil. Simply sowing the seeds will cause the persimmon to sprout and bear sweet fruit when the season arrives. Autumn is also the season when persimmons begin to bloom, but as autumn fades and winter approaches, they ripen in abundance. The orange-yellow color of the ripe persimmons covers the trees, creating a captivating sight. The green of the leaves blends with the glossy yellow of the persimmons, making the garden even more enchanting with its vibrant hues.

This elegant fruit has become a unique and distinctive gift of Da Lat. Along the mountain passes, in large and small markets, you'll find stalls selling ripe persimmons everywhere. There are dried persimmons, chewy persimmons, dried persimmon jam – all kinds of persimmons. Buying a bag of fresh persimmons, costing only a few tens of thousands of dong, and having them carefully wrapped in paper by the seller, along with detailed instructions on how to preserve them properly and how to eat them for the best taste, shows just how thoughtful the people of Da Lat are.
