Dodo is a freelancer, travel blogger, and photographer currently living in Mang Den, Kon Tum. He supports tourism development projects in this newly emerging mountain town. Dodo's work allows him to travel extensively throughout the country.
The Suoi Thau grassland is as beautiful as a painting.
Recently, he chose to experience exploring the beauty of Ha Giang during the rice harvest season. Before the trip, Dodo consulted information online and asked for more details from a friend who works as a tour guide in Ha Giang. He decided that the Hoang Su Phi route and the Suoi Thau grassland would be the main itinerary for this golden rice harvest season trip.
"Although the journey was a bit arduous, once I arrived and admired the beauty of the Suoi Thau grassland, I felt that my choice was absolutely right and all my efforts were completely worthwhile," Dodo shared with Travellive.
The travel blogger described the beauty of Suoi Thau grassland as even more stunning than he had expected and the reviews he had read online. A vast and still very pristine grassland, Suoi Thau gave Dodo a feeling of peace. It transported him to some European grassland he had seen in movies.

Speaking to Travellive, Dodo took the photos of the golden season in Suoi Thau between 4:00 and 5:30 PM. This is the time when the sun's rays shine directly on the rice fields and buckwheat paddies on the grassland. He also advised tourists to visit in the afternoon because it's more convenient in terms of travel time and space, as the grassland faces west.
"In my opinion, the two most beautiful places to visit in Vietnam during the rice harvest season are Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai and Hoang Su Phi in Ha Giang. I chose Hoang Su Phi because it's less crowded," Dodo said.
For him, the biggest challenge in creating the Suoi Thau grassland photo series was getting to the location. The journey there was quite long, about 10km from Coc Pai town in Xin Man district, mostly steep roads, with some sections being very steep. Dodo used a Win motorbike to easily navigate the terrain, but had to stop several times due to sharp turns and steep slopes. The road in the Suoi Thau grassland is narrow, steep, and unpaved, making it difficult to reach the mountaintop.
The rugged, narrow mountain roads make getting to Suoi Thau difficult.
"During a trip to explore the beauty of Hoang Su Phi during the rice harvest season, I think everyone should visit the Hoang Su Phi terraced rice fields, Ban Phung, Ban Nhung, Hoa Cheo Phin, and Ban Luoc," Dodo replied when asked about other special tourist destinations in Ha Giang.
In the near future, Dodo doesn't have any travel plans. He is currently focused on developing tourism projects in his hometown, especially in the ethnic minority areas of Mang Den.
The climate in the Suoi Thau grassland is cool. In the early morning, visitors can witness the sea of clouds covering the mountains and hills. The evening offers a breathtaking sunset. On the grassland, the Hmong people often cultivate food crops such as rice, corn, and medicinal plants.

When food crops are ready for harvest, locals take advantage of the opportunity to plant some flowering plants suitable to the soil and climate conditions, such as buckwheat and rapeseed flowers, to both provide daily food and promote tourism. Tourists can take photos in the buckwheat fields for an entrance fee of 40,000 VND per adult and 20,000 VND per child. Currently, the total planned area of the Suoi Thau grassland is 146 hectares, including land within the administrative boundaries of Coc Pai town and land within the administrative boundaries of Nan Ma commune. Tourists should note that this area is still a pristine grassland with few services and amenities.
