Phase 1 is scheduled to begin on December 15th and last for two weeks. Specifically, it will organize regular flights between Vietnam and the following markets: Beijing (China), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), Taipei - Taiwan (China), Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Vientiane (Laos), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), San Francisco or Los Angeles (USA). International flights during this period will arrive at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports. The frequency will be 4 flights/week/direction for each side (with an estimated total of approximately 14,000 passengers entering Vietnam per week).
Phase 2 will be implemented within one month after the completion of Phase 1, expected to begin in January 2022.
According to the government, reopening international flights is essential given the increasing demand for repatriation among Vietnamese people abroad. Furthermore, vaccination rates have accelerated, with 97% of the population having received the first dose and over 70% having received both doses. - Photo: Internet
In addition to the nine markets mentioned above, the Ministry proposes opening more routes to/from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Hong Kong (China), Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), Sydney (Australia), and Moscow (Russia). At this stage, besides Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, the proposed international airports to receive flights include Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Van Don. The expected frequency will increase to 7 flights/week/direction for each side (with an estimated total of approximately 40,000 passengers entering Vietnam per week).
After the pilot program, the Ministry will summarize and evaluate the results to prepare for the restoration of regular international shipping operations as before. This will facilitate foreign investors and experts entering Vietnam to explore investment and business opportunities. At the same time, Vietnamese citizens whose labor contracts have expired, students, and those stranded abroad will be able to return home to reunite with their families.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, since Vietnam began piloting the welcoming of international tourists, 1,179 visitors have come to Vietnam and no cases of Covid-19 have been detected. It is expected that by the end of December, Vietnam will continue to welcome approximately over 15,000 tourists.
