At the press conference before the gala, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the "rich and profound" history of American fashion. She shared: "This is a story of progress and ingenuity, of rebellion and innovation. A story often written by those working quietly in the shadows. They are not recognized for their influence or their artistry. But at the Met, their story will be told. Their voices will be heard, and their work will shine."
