At a pre-gala press conference, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden delivered opening remarks and highlighted the “rich and profound” history of American fashion. “This is a story of progress and ingenuity, of rebellion and innovation,” she said. “It’s often written by people who remain in the shadows. They’re not recognized for their influence or their art. But at the Met, their stories will be told. Their voices will be heard and their work will shine.”
