According to the latest announcement from the Quang Tri Provincial Museum, the relic will officially stop receiving visitors from August 23, 2025. This is a necessary move to facilitate the implementation of the Thong Nhat Park project, a large-scale project expected to enhance the historical and cultural value of this sacred site. The decision to temporarily stop operations not only ensures absolute safety for visitors but is also a commitment to a worthy "rebirth", promising to bring a new, more modern look to the relic site.
The temporary suspension of receiving visitors at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai relic site is a strategic step, part of the implementation roadmap of the Thong Nhat Park project, approved by the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee from the end of 2024 with a total investment of up to 80 billion VND. This project is not simply a repair, but a comprehensive overhaul, aiming to preserve the core values of the relic, while improving service quality, meeting the increasing needs of tourists.
Hien Luong - Ben Hai, the destination of the desire for peace
According to the plan, the construction items will last from August to the end of December 2025. During this time, the reception, explanation and guidance of visitors will not be able to ensure the best quality, and there are many potential risks to labor safety. Therefore, the temporary suspension of operations is considered the optimal solution, both protecting visitors and creating a favorable space for contractors to complete construction on schedule.
To serve the construction of Thong Nhat Park Project, the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Monument will temporarily close to visitors from August 23 until further notice.
One of the key items of the project is the renovation and improvement of Hien Luong Bridge - a symbol of division and the aspiration for national reunification. The bridge will have a part of the iron and steel structure frame that has been rusted and damaged over time replaced, and the entire surface will be re-paved with rare 50mm thick ironwood to ensure durability and aesthetics. The bridge abutments will also be reinforced with carbon fiber panels, a modern technology to increase stability. In addition, auxiliary works such as the flagpole, the complex, the management office and the reception house will also be renovated and upgraded. In particular, the project also invests in specialized equipment to serve the cinema and commentary room, helping visitors have a more comprehensive and in-depth view of history.
Hien Luong Bridge crosses Ben Hai River in Hien Luong village, Hien Thanh commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province, nearly 183m long. The bridge has 7 spans, each span is nearly 20m long, with ironwood flooring.
The Thong Nhat Park project is not just about renovating physical structures. It is an investment in spiritual values, in preserving and spreading sacred historical lessons to future generations. The two banks of Hien Luong - Ben Hai, with its historic river and legendary iron bridge, are not only a place that marks a painful period of the nation, but also a symbol of indomitable will, of the desire for peace and unity.
This is a witness, associated with the heroic historical period of the nation.
Although temporarily closed to visitors, the Management Board of the Relic Site will still maintain normal operations, focusing on protection and sanitation work, ensuring the landscape is always clean and beautiful, ready for the reopening day. This is a thoughtful preparation, demonstrating the professionalism and dedication of those working in heritage conservation.
Upon completion, the Thong Nhat Park project will bring a new look, helping visitors have a more complete and meaningful experience when coming to this heroic land. The Hien Luong - Ben Hai Relic will not only be a historical destination, but also a classy cultural, educational and entertainment space, worthy of the status of a special national heritage.
