According to the newly issued Resolution No. 229/NQ-CP, Vietnam officially grants visa exemption to citizens of 12 European countries, including Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

Besides opening its doors to tourists, the Government also issued Decree No. 221/2025/ND-CP, stipulating long-term visa exemptions for special groups to serve socio-economic development.

This decree aims to attract top talent, investors, and experts from around the world. The list of visa-exempt individuals comprises six main groups. First are high-ranking guests of the Party and State. Next are experts, scholars, scientists, and highly qualified personnel in the field of digital technology. The third group includes investors and leaders of large global corporations who can bring capital and advanced technology to Vietnam.

The visa exemption policy for citizens of the aforementioned countries entering Vietnam will be implemented from August 15, 2025 to August 14, 2028.

Finally, another special group consists of guests of research institutes, universities, and large enterprises, with a list specifically determined by the Government. These individuals, if eligible, will be granted visa exemptions for up to five years, facilitating their long-term work and contributions in Vietnam.
