Officially kicking off on June 2nd, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival - DIFF 2023, with the theme "A World Without Borders," will go through four nights of competition to find the two best contenders for the championship: France and Italy.
Entering the "final battle," the Italian team, with the mindset of a record-holder as the only team to have won the DIFF twice in a row, chose to lead the audience from poignant reflections and lively excitement to a surge of pride with the Power of Art. Meanwhile, the "newcomer" France, possessing the confident spirit of the proud "Gallic roosters," captivated the audience, illuminating a world without boundaries with a story of love. Notably, during each team's performance, a Vietnamese song resonated, taking tens of thousands of spectators from the vibrant energy of Thu Minh's "Bay" to the proud chorus of "Vietnam in My Heart."

Concluding a spectacular fireworks season, DIFF 2023 deservedly received the most prestigious award: the award in the hearts of tourists and participating teams. Just as the captain of the French team, Edouard Gregoire, affirmed after winning the championship: “The people here welcomed us so warmly and the organization was excellent. We want to thank the organizers. We will definitely return next year.”
DIFF's impressive comeback
The Vietnamese flag and the flags of the participating countries in DIFF 2023 fluttered on the stage during the final night.
The return of the DIFF brand after a three-year hiatus couldn't be more timely. After a period of dormancy and a slumbering awakening in 2022, locals and tourists alike craved something explosive to release the pent-up emotions they endured during the pandemic. The sluggish tourism economy across destinations, not just Da Nang, needed a strong dose of "doping" to ignite and unleash momentum. And DIFF was the answer to all those desires and suppressed emotions.
With the theme "A World Without Borders," DIFF 2023 dedicated a month to Da Nang, filled with memorable moments and hope for the resurgence of its tourism industry. For over a month, every weekend, flights landed at Da Nang International Airport, the streets were packed with people heading to the fireworks display, restaurants were full, and hotels operated at near full capacity.
According to the city's Department of Tourism, DIFF (Da Nang International Fireworks Festival) is a major boost that will drive the city's tourism development in the coming period. Over 30,000 spectators attended the 5 nights of performances, 8 teams from 8 countries competed, thousands of volunteers and hundreds of domestic and international media outlets covered the event for over a month, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of Da Nang's summer.
Restaurants were packed, and hotels were operating at near full capacity every night of the competition.
Statistics show that during the June period of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), the total number of guests served by accommodation establishments reached nearly 706,000, an increase of 34.1% compared to the same month in 2022. Room occupancy rates consistently reached 70% during this period; revenue from accommodation and food services reached 1,874 billion VND. The number of flights to Da Nang reached up to 150 flights/day at times, 1.5 times the usual daily rate.
The impressive figures not only showcased the scale and appeal of DIFF 2023 but also reaffirmed that DIFF has truly become a major event for the local tourism industry, immediately bringing optimistic growth signals to Da Nang tourism. DIFF once again helped Da Nang assert its title as "Asia's Leading Destination for Events and Festivals".

DIFF 2023 has come to an end, but the memories of the "outstanding" performances of the competing teams will remain in the hearts of the audience, and the championship title won by the French team will be a milestone recorded in history.
The figures recording growth in tourists, flights, revenue from accommodation and services… will certainly be the necessary “doping” for Da Nang's tourism industry to have more motivation to conquer new heights. As Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh stated at the Final Night: “After tonight, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2023 will come to an end, but the dreams and aspirations of the city will continue to be nurtured and spread.”

Da Nang is on track to become a high-quality tourism and service center, an innovative destination of Vietnam and Southeast Asia by 2030; and by 2045, a leading tourist destination in Asia. Therefore, large-scale events like the International Fireworks Festival are considered essential and should be maintained to give Da Nang tourism its own unique "specialties".
According to many experts, with more systematic investment, larger and more modern grandstands, and a "fireworks ecosystem" including resorts, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, the Da Nang Fireworks Festival could transform the city on the Han River into a "new fireworks destination" of the world.
