Since the beginning of 2022, Hanoi's tourism sector has shown positive signs, attracting nearly 50% more visitors compared to the same period last year. The Hanoi Department of Tourism is currently planning and implementing numerous events to further boost the city's tourism development in the new normal context.

The number of tourists visiting Hanoi in the first quarter increased by 45.3% compared to 2021.

According to a report by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, it is projected that in the first quarter of 2022, approximately 2.8 million tourists will visit Hanoi, primarily domestic visitors. This figure represents a 45.3% increase compared to the same period in 2021, generating around 7.8 trillion VND in revenue.

Regarding the hotel business, as of March this year, Hanoi has 3,725 tourist accommodation establishments with 70,011 rooms, of which 591 hotels have been rated from 1-5 stars with 24,415 rooms, accounting for 15.9% of the total number of tourist accommodation establishments in the area. The average room occupancy rate for 1-5 star hotels is estimated at approximately 19.3%, a decrease of 1.9% compared to the same period in 2021.

Boosting Hanoi's tourism promotion in the last nine months of the year.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism has put forward several plans to promote the city's tourism development in the new normal. These include diversifying the forms of promoting destinations and tourism products on various media channels; actively cooperating with provinces and cities, as well as departments and agencies, to implement numerous activities, events, and festivals that reflect the unique identity of the capital city and aim for international integration.

With the upcoming hosting of the 31st Sea Games, the number of international tourists in the region is expected to increase. Hanoi is therefore actively coordinating and organizing activities, products, and programs to promote the city's tourism before and during the Sea Games.

Regarding tourism products, the city will promote the development of night tourism products; heritage tourism at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hoa Lo Prison historical site, Duong Lam ancient village... and cultural and spiritual tourism combined with experiences at Chuong Pagoda, Soc Temple, Co Loa...

In addition, the city is also organizing a plan to retrain the workforce affected during the pandemic, and is conducting tourism training courses for accommodation, food and beverage, and shopping establishments to meet standards for serving tourists and prepare for welcoming tourists to Hanoi in the new normal.
