Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Deputy Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, recently stated that the impact of the nCoV (Covid-19) epidemic has caused many difficulties for the local tourism industry. It is estimated that the number of visitors decreased by more than one million in the first quarter alone, mainly due to a decrease of 470,000 Chinese tourists; international visitors from other markets decreased by more than 250,000, and domestic tourists decreased by more than 300,000.
"The tourism industry has suffered losses of approximately 9,000 billion VND, and if this situation continues, the figure could increase to around 17,000 billion VND by the second quarter," Ms. Thanh said.
The shops are doing poorly or have closed down.
Many hotels in Nha Trang have had to refund billions of dong due to cancellations by Chinese partners and other parties; island tours and many tourist destinations are deserted; and restaurants and eateries are closed. Tourism businesses all hope for the early declaration of the end of the epidemic in Khanh Hoa when conditions permit, so they can resume operations and economic recovery.
On February 19th, Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, requested the Department of Tourism to develop a response plan to restore the tourism market and stimulate demand after the coronavirus outbreak ends. In addition, the National Administration will soon propose to the Government policies to support tourism businesses through tax policies, credit, human resource training, and promotional activities to facilitate their early recovery. The agency will also work with travel agencies, airlines, accommodation establishments, etc., to develop programs to stimulate tourism demand.
The number of tourists in Khanh Hoa is sparse and has decreased.
Mr. Le Tan Phung, Deputy Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Health, said that the locality has not recorded any new infections in the past 30 days, meeting the conditions to declare the epidemic over. The Department of Health is advising the Provincial People's Committee to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Health to declare the epidemic over.
