According to document No. 45/5/VX-UBND recently issued regarding the continued implementation of safe, flexible adaptation activities and effective control of the Covid-19 epidemic, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province has decided to cease operations of quarantine checkpoints entering the province from 12:00 PM on January 6th. However, the checkpoint at Km237 on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway will continue to control trucks carrying goods to the Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II until before January 20th. Therefore, tourists arriving in Sa Pa do not need to stop at quarantine checkpoints; they only need to declare their health status online.
The number of visitors to Sa Pa (Lao Cai) during this year's New Year's holiday decreased sharply compared to last year due to the complicated pandemic situation in many parts of the country. In 2021, Sa Pa welcomed 65,000 visitors. (Image: Internet)
Recently, amidst the complex developments of Covid-19, Lao Cai province established health checkpoints on all road routes into the province, requiring 100% of people entering Lao Cai to declare their health status and update their health information to promptly detect suspected cases. To date, the province has also recorded that 90% of people over 12 years old have received all doses of the vaccine.
Previously, from 7:00 AM on December 31, 2021, Lao Cai required people arriving from high-risk areas (level 3) to self-monitor their health. If they had received all doses of vaccine and had a negative rapid test result, they did not need to quarantine.
During the three-day New Year's holiday, Sa Pa received 17,346 visitors, a 30% decrease compared to the same period last year. Revenue from tourism reached 46 billion VND, a decrease of 110 billion VND compared to the same holiday period in 2021.
