According to the recently issued document No. 45/5/VX-UBND on continuing to implement a number of safe and flexible adaptation activities to effectively control the Covid-19 epidemic, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province decided to stop the operation of quarantine checkpoints in the area from 12:00 on January 6. Particularly at Km237 of Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, control of trucks carrying goods to Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II will continue until January 20. Thus, visitors to Sa Pa do not need to stop at the quarantine checkpoint, just need to declare their health online.

Recently, in the context of complicated developments of Covid-19, Lao Cai has set up medical checkpoints on all roads leading to the province, requiring 100% of people entering Lao Cai to declare their health and update their health status to promptly detect suspected cases. To date, the province has also recorded that 90% of people over 12 years old have received enough doses of vaccine.
Previously, from 7:00 a.m. on December 31, 2021, Lao Cai required people coming from high-risk areas corresponding to orange (level 3) to self-monitor their health, if they have received enough doses of vaccine and have a negative rapid test result, without needing to be quarantined.
During the past 3 days of New Year's holiday, there were 17,346 visitors to Sa Pa, equal to 30% compared to the same period. Revenue from tourists reached 46 billion VND, down 110 billion VND compared to the 2021 holiday.
