A 50km journey from the city center took me to the Can Gio Mangrove Forest, a lush green destination for nature lovers and those wishing to explore national history. Known by its full name, "Can Gio Biosphere Reserve," this forest covers an area of over 75,000 hectares, encompassing the delta region right at the mouth of the Saigon, Dong Nai, and Vam Co rivers.
With the title of the first World Biosphere Reserve in Vietnam recognized by UNESCO, the Can Gio Mangrove Forest has become a "green lung" in the heart of the city, home to a diverse range of rare flora and fauna, including species listed in the Red Book.

Beyond being a gathering place for animals, the Sac Forest also makes a strong impression with its diverse vegetation. Our tour guide led me and the group through Monkey Island, where thousands of mischievous monkeys are accustomed to welcoming visitors every day. They roam freely, play, spill out onto the roads, some busy grooming each other, others fearlessly approaching tourists to beg for food and water.
Having passed the area bustling with monkeys, we strolled leisurely along a picturesque path. The tall mangrove trees cast their shadows like a vast canopy, obscuring the sky, revealing only the shimmering sunlight filtering through the leaves.

The approximately 5km trekking route challenges visitors with its diverse terrain, from walking under the shade of trees to crossing the characteristic wetlands of the area. During the resistance war against American colonialism, the Rừng Sác war zone became an indispensable and crucial base. Hundreds of brave battles, large and small, struck fear into the enemy. Visitors to the Can Gio Mangrove Forest historical site will be guided through historical stories by dedicated tour guides. My group and I had the opportunity to admire models simulating the combat life of the special forces soldiers of Regiment 10. From the medical houses and information centers to the weapons factory, every detail was realistically recreated.
