Recently, the popular apartment rental app Airbnb launched its "Live Anywhere with Airbnb" program, seeking volunteers. Twelve lucky individuals will get to travel the world for a year. Their task will be to live in and experience apartments around the globe and provide feedback to help Airbnb improve its services and app in the future.
The data provided by volunteers will be used by Airbnb to shape its existing products and resources in order to improve its long-term accommodation services. This will allow Airbnb to idealize accommodations for solo travelers or those traveling with family and friends, as well as better understand the financial benefits for homeowners listing their properties on the app.
In return, participating volunteers will have all their accommodation and travel expenses fully covered throughout the trip. Airbnb also suggests that participants can rent out their current apartment while away from home to earn extra income.
Airbnb revealed that the basis for developing this program is the growing demand for long-term rentals on the app. According to Airbnb's survey data, the number of users searching for rentals of 28 days or more increased by 10% from 2019 to 2021.
“The Live Anywhere with Airbnb program will give many people the opportunity to see the world through a different lens. We look forward to seeing people freely choose and change where they live and work,” an Airbnb representative shared.
Travelers wishing to participate in Airbnb's program can visit the app's website and register. Everyone is eligible, whether you're a work-from-home employee, an older couple, or a young family. Eligibility requirements include being over 18 years old and being able to travel continuously for 12 months between July 2021 and July 2022. Airbnb will provide essential information such as accommodation and local culture before each trip. Each applicant can bring a maximum of three companions on a year-long trip.
