The SYNC 3 AppLink simulator software is a tool for developing applications on the AppLink platform. This software can be downloaded free of charge from the Ford Developer Program website. The platform allows researchers to gain a more intuitive understanding of how their applications work within the SYNC 3 interface without needing a direct connection to a vehicle.

“The SYNC 3 AppLink emulation software makes app development incredibly easy,” said Dave Hatton, Mobile App Development Manager, Connected Vehicles & Services division at Ford. “We look forward to this tool opening doors for developers worldwide to create vehicle-friendly applications.”
With over 15 million vehicles equipped with SYNC® worldwide and an estimated 43 million by 2020, Ford will launch a free tool to support mobile software developers, making the process of creating apps for vehicles on the SYNC 3 infotainment system easier and more efficient than ever before.
Essential application development tools
The computer emulator software will simulate the SYNC 3 smart connectivity system and connect with the regular app running on the phone. Users can adjust the interface and features of the app, and these changes will immediately appear on the in-car touchscreen.
The software also allows developers to test applications under certain conditions such as speed, location, temperature, and distance traveled. These customizable settings help developers create applications that support users with more personalized experiences.

Software development made easy
This free and easily accessible simulation software will help accelerate application development, especially in markets where developers have limited access to real-world vehicles or current Ford SYNC-based application development methods, such as the FordDev Technology Development Kits. Ford also distributes these development kits in San Francisco.
Conferences and competitions for app developers.
Ford will be holding its 3rd annual SYNC AppLink Development Conference at the CTIA Super Mobility 2016, from September 7-9, in Las Vegas. Ford engineers will be providing hands-on explanations and guidance on the latest software tools, enabling the leveraging of vehicle data to develop personalized applications in the future.
In addition, Ford's application development division will also organize a technology competition where researchers can put their ideas to the test and have a chance to win. Previous competitions have attracted many developers from around the world, including the US, Canada, the UK, Brazil, Hong Kong, and Japan.

"For Ford, supporting the development of the global app developer community and opening doors to innovation are fundamental values in our mission," said Hatton. "As a technology development company, we will embrace innovation with unwavering efforts – one of which is the Ford Developer Program."
Ford Developer Program
Launched in 2013, the Ford Developer Program has attracted app developers from around the world to grow with the company in the automotive industry's first dedicated developer ecosystem. The program currently has over 15,000 registered participants and more than 90 apps compatible with the AppLink platform globally. Spotify®, AccuWeather®, MLB.com® At Bat, and iHeartAuto are among the popular applications that work on AppLink.
