Son Doong is one of three Asian representatives on this list, along with China's Reed Flute Cave and Laos' Pak Ou Cave. The top spot belongs to Mammoth Cave (USA) - the longest cave system in the world with a total length of about 676km. Next are Škocjan Cave (Slovenia) and Waitomo Cave (New Zealand).
Discovered in 1990, Son Doong holds the title of the world's largest natural cave with a volume of up to 38.5 million cubic meters. Located in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park complex - a world heritage recognized by UNESCO, Son Doong has been open to visitors since 2013.

With a length of 9km, a height of 200m and a width of 160m, Son Doong owns the tallest stalagmite system in the world, reaching up to 70m. The international press once compared this cave to being so large that it could accommodate a Boeing 747 flying through without colliding.
Despite the rugged terrain, tours to Son Doong Cave always attract a large number of international tourists. Oxalis - the only company providing tourism services here - said all tours in 2024 are fully booked.
Dubbed the most expensive tour in Vietnam, Son Doong Cave attracts tourists with its unique adventure experience lasting 6 days and 5 nights at a cost of about 70 million VND (3,000 USD) per person.
