The number of international passengers denied entry to Vietnam has been increasing sharply in recent years. According to the Standing Committee of the National Aviation Security Risk Assessment Council, the use of fake passports or incidents related to travel documents on international flights in general have tended to increase from 2022 to present globally.

Aviation industry data shows that the number of international passengers arriving in Vietnam who were denied entry at airports across the country has increased sharply. In 2020, there were 506 cases, in 2022, there were 404 cases, in 2023, there were 886 cases, and in the first two months of 2024, there were 217 cases. In 2021 alone, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were very few international commercial flights to Vietnam, so there were only 5 cases of passengers being denied entry.
The increase in cases of passengers being denied entry can cause damage to carriers, put pressure on airports (where passengers are managed to return to their departure points), and potentially pose risks to security, safety, and order at airports and on aircraft.
Strengthening control of air travel documents is necessary to ensure security, safety and order at airports and on aircraft.
To minimize the negative impacts of the above situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines operating international flights to Vietnam to promptly update Vietnamese and international regulations on entry, exit, and transit related to air passengers, implement propaganda measures in various forms to air passengers and related travel companies about regulations on air travel documents, and request the authorities and functional forces to control air travel documents of the country where the aircraft departs (before flying to Vietnam) to strictly control passenger documents.
Strengthening the control of flight documents is necessary to ensure security, safety and order at airports and on planes. Passengers should be careful to prepare all necessary documents before flying to avoid problems at the border.
