The number of international passengers being denied entry into Vietnam has been increasing sharply in recent years. According to the Standing Committee of the National Aviation Security Risk Assessment Council, the use of forged passports or incidents related to travel documents on international flights in general have tended to increase globally from 2022 to the present.

Data from the aviation industry shows a sharp increase in the number of international passengers being denied entry at airports across Vietnam. There were 506 cases in 2020, 404 in 2022, 886 in 2023, and 217 in the first two months of 2024. In 2021, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the limited number of international commercial flights to Vietnam, only 5 passengers were denied entry.
The increase in cases of passengers being denied entry can cause losses for airlines, put pressure on airports (where passengers are managed to be returned to their point of origin), and pose potential risks to security, safety, and order at airports and on aircraft.
Strengthening the control of travel documents is necessary to ensure security, safety, and order at airports and on aircraft.
To minimize the negative impacts of the above situation, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested airlines operating international flights to Vietnam to promptly update Vietnamese and international regulations on entry, exit, and transit related to passengers, implement various forms of communication to passengers and relevant travel companies about regulations regarding travel documents, and request authorities and functional forces to check the travel documents of the country of origin (before flying to Vietnam) to strictly control passenger documents.
Enhanced document checks for air travel are necessary to ensure security, safety, and order at airports and on aircraft. Passengers should ensure they have all necessary documents ready before flying to avoid problems at customs.
