Hawa Mahal – The famous Palace of Winds in India

Known as the "Palace of Winds," Hawa is the most famous architectural landmark in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. From the outside, the palace resembles a giant beehive with 953 intricately decorated and carved windows.

Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the palace is modeled after the crown of the goddess Krishna, shining brightly in the sunlight. The five-story structure, made of pink sandstone, further enhances the beauty of the heritage city of Jaipur.

Originally, Hawa Mahal was built as a private complex for royal women. From here, they could observe the daily lives of the people through the windows without having to show their faces to the public.

The palace does not have a direct entrance. Visitors wishing to visit Hawa Mahal must enter through the City Palace gate.

Furthermore, decorative elements are only found on the front facade. Inside, the palace is quite simple, with a series of pillars and ramps leading to the upper floors. The palace has a five-story pyramid-shaped architecture and is built with distinctive red and pink sandstone.

The system of small windows catches the breezes from outside, keeping the palace airy and cool. Small balconies spanning the windows and arches attached to the palace's edges create a distinctive feature and enhance its beauty.
