Hoi An is among the world's lowest-cost destinations

Hoi An was once again mentioned by international media in the list of ideal destinations in terms of both beauty and travel costs.

The UK’s leading financial company Post Office conducted a survey called “Holiday Money” to rank the cheapest tourist destinations. Southeast Asia has two places on this list including Hoi An (Vietnam) and Bali (Indonesia).

The ranking criteria of this list is based on the minimum cost to buy 8 essential items when traveling to 46 destinations around the world including: a cup of coffee, a glass of beer, a can of coke, a bottle of mineral water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a meal for two and a bottle of wine.

The results showed that the cost for a day trip in Hoi An is about 58.39 GBP (1.87 million VND) higher than the cost in the resort island of Bali - 55.01 GBP (1.76 million VND).

In Hoi An, a can of beer at the resort costs around £2.85 (VND91,000). A romantic dinner for two with a full menu of 3 appetizers, main course and dessert, accompanied by a bottle of wine, costs £34.37 (VND1.1 million), with an additional glass of wine costing £2.60 (VND83,000).

Not only a world heritage site and a cheap destination, Hoi An ancient town with beautiful beaches such as An Bang and Cua Dai is rated by TripAdvisor as one of the 25 most popular destinations in 2021.

Meanwhile, Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is the world's cheapest destination, with visitors spending an average of £27.71 per day. Marmaris in Türkiye comes in second with £37.19.
