Hoi An and Hue have canceled many New Year's celebrations.

30/12/2021

On December 29th, the People's Committee of Hoi An City announced that the city was forced to cancel the planned gala on the night of December 31st and the welcoming of the first group of tourists on the morning of January 1st, 2022. Similarly, the pedestrian street around the Hue Imperial Citadel and Hue's New Year's Eve music event will also be suspended.

According to the plan, Hoi An City (Quang Nam province) was scheduled to hold two main events: the "Hoi An - Welcoming the New Year" gala on December 31st and a local tourism event to welcome the first group of tourists to the city on January 1st, 2022. Invitations had already been sent to dignitaries and tourists for both events. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, due to the emergence of many community infections with an unknown source, the local authorities have decided to temporarily suspend these two events and cancel some public activities celebrating the 2022 New Year.

However, activities such as guided tours, street art and cultural events, experiential activities, and visits to the ancient town and traditional craft villages will continue to operate normally to serve tourists. Nevertheless, these activities must be carried out strictly and in compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures as outlined in the official document issued by the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee.

Customers entering restaurants and cafes must scan a QR code, wash their hands with disinfectant, and ensure social distancing between tables.

To date, Quang Nam province has recorded 5,576 cases of Covid-19, while Thua Thien-Hue province has nearly 400 new infections each day.
