Lake Bled, formed during the Ice Age, is 2,120 meters long, 1,380 meters wide, and has a maximum depth of 30.6 meters. It is surrounded by the majestic Julian Alps and lush green forests. In the middle of the lake lies a natural, unique floating island in Slovenia, a fairytale castle.
This island boasts many structures with unique architecture, but perhaps the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church is the most striking and elegant destination. Previously, it was rumored that a temple dedicated to a Norse goddess, Ziva, the goddess of love and fertility, was erected here. Archaeological studies also indicate that rituals worshipping this deity took place here before the arrival of Christians in the 9th century.

The church is often used as a wedding venue due to its stunning location and the romantic scenery surrounding the captivating island. It's a wonderful place for couples seeking romance to exchange vows. There's also a traditional custom on the island where the groom carries the bride up all the steps of the church to demonstrate their undying love. The church was originally built in the Gothic style and was renovated in 1685 in a pre-Baroque style with an interior of wood and marble. Here, visitors can also ring a magical wishing bell, and it's said their wishes will come true.

Another charming attraction near Lake Bled is the castle of the same name, built in the Middle Ages and considered a symbol of the city. It sits atop a towering cliff, facing north towards the stunning turquoise lake. According to historical records, it is the oldest castle in Slovenia and is currently one of the country's most popular tourist attractions.
Visitors can reach the island on a traditional wooden-bottomed boat called a Pletna. Many adventurous visitors can also rent a boat and paddle to the island themselves. Those who don't like boating can also walk around Lake Bled, take a horse-drawn carriage, or cycle to enjoy the peaceful, airy, quiet, and serene scenery surrounding the city of Bled.
