Bled glacial lake was formed during the ice age and is 2,120 m long, 1,380 m wide and has a maximum depth of 30.6 m. It is surrounded by the majestic Julian Alps and lush green forests. In the middle of the lake is Slovenia's only natural floating island, a fairytale castle.
There are many unique architectural structures on the island, but perhaps the most prominent and elegant destination is the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church. Previously, it was rumored that a temple to the Norse goddess Ziva, the goddess of love and fertility, was built here. Archaeological studies also show that worship ceremonies for this goddess were held here before the arrival of Christians in the 9th century.

The church is often used as a wedding venue because of its beautiful location and the romantic scenery surrounding the attractive island. This is a great place for couples looking for romance, to exchange vows. On this island, there is also a traditional custom established for couples on their wedding day, that is, the groom must carry the bride up all the steps of the church, to prove his undying love. The church was originally built in the Gothic style and in 1685 was renovated in pre-Baroque architecture with a wooden and marble interior. Also here, visitors can ring the magical wishing bell and it is said that their wishes will come true.

Another attraction near Lake Bled is the medieval castle of the same name, considered a symbol of the city, located on a high cliff, facing the northern part of the lake overlooking the beautiful turquoise lake. According to preserved written sources, this is the oldest castle in Slovenia and is currently one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
Visitors can reach the island on a traditional wooden boat called Pletna. More adventurous visitors can also rent a boat and row to the island alone. If you do not like rowing to visit the island, visitors can also walk around the shore of Lake Bled, ride a horse-drawn carriage, or bike to enjoy the peaceful, airy, quiet and gentle scenery around the city of Bled.
