Nestled amidst scorching sand dunes, Huacachina appears before visitors with its expansive lake and lush green trees.
Traveling an hour from the Pacific coast, across sun-scorched sand dunes reminiscent of the Sahara Desert, visitors are greeted by a small oasis, a cool blue lake, and lush greenery that seem to dispel the sweltering heat outside.
Huacachina has virtually no residential houses, only hotels, guesthouses, and resorts catering to tourists. In fact, the population here is only about 100 people, and most of them work in jobs related to the local tourism industry.
For a long time, Huacachina has been a favorite destination for Peru's elite on their travels. Today, this small oasis attracts adventure travelers from all over the world who love thrilling activities on the sand dunes.
Viewed from above, Huacachina doesn't seem to be very large; the trees and guesthouses all surround a natural lake, but it is this lake that creates a precious landscape in the scorching desert.
Besides the natural lake, resorts in Huacachina have also built several artificial swimming pools for guests to enjoy swimming and recreational activities.
Huacachina sparkles at night. From here, the oasis is quite close to the city of Ica and has a planned road with streetlights on both sides, instead of the difficult trails found in other deserts.
