International visitors entering Vietnam do not need to be quarantined

16/03/2022

According to the guidance document signed by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son on the evening of March 15, people entering Vietnam only need to have a negative Covid-19 test before leaving the country, and only need to make a health declaration upon entry, without needing to be tested again or quarantined.

The guidelines state that international visitors to Vietnam only need to have a negative test result 72 hours before departure by air, if using the RT-PCR/RT-LAMP method; or within 24 hours if using the rapid test method.

There is no requirement for passengers entering Vietnam by air to be tested again upon entering the country, nor is there a requirement for quarantine. The guidelines also do not mention that passengers entering Vietnam must have a certificate of full vaccination or have recovered from Covid-19 within the past 6 months.

Thus, international visitors entering Vietnam by air only need to test negative for Covid-19 before departure, do not need to be tested after entry, and can participate in tourism immediately.

People entering by road, rail, or sea can be tested before departure, just like those arriving by air, if the travel time is short. In case of a longer trip, Covid-19 testing can be done at the border gate.

Children under 2 years old entering the country by any means are not required to be tested for Covid-19, have not been vaccinated or have never been infected with SARS-CoV-2, and are allowed to enter the country and participate in activities outside their place of residence with their parents and relatives.

In addition, entrants must make a health declaration before entering the country and use the health declaration application (PC-COVID) during their stay in Vietnam. Within 10 days from the date of entry, visitors must monitor their health and take disease prevention measures. If they have symptoms of suspected infection, they must immediately notify the nearest medical facility.

More information

On March 15, Vietnam resumed all international flights, completely restoring the tourism industry to its pre-Covid-19 state. Work to reopen tourism has also been underway to ensure readiness to serve tourists.

However, international tourists are still hesitant about coming to Vietnam, flights operating intofirst day of openingmainly serving overseas Vietnamese or domestic tourists. This is due to the limited application of personnel review and visa issuance policies; there are no specific guidelines on medical conditions for international tourists entering the country.
