When 15 Chinese buildings collapsed simultaneously.

China demolished 15 buildings using a large-scale test blast. 4.6 tons of explosives were placed at 85,000 detonation points within the buildings. The demolition took 45 seconds and destroyed property worth 1 billion yuan (approximately US$154 million).

These buildings were abandoned during the construction phase of the Liyang Star City Phase II project in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. The reason for demolition was that the buildings no longer met market standards, and the prolonged abandonment allowed rainwater to seep into the foundations, causing irreparable damage.

Before the explosion began, approximately 2,000 households with over 5,300 people had been evacuated. The surrounding area was completely sealed off, and relevant personnel were present. Vehicles such as rescue trucks, sanitation vehicles, and law enforcement vehicles from the Municipal Administration were parked at the intersection of Beihaiyuan Road and Huigu Road.

Many people gathered on the roadside outside the lockdown area to witness the explosion firsthand. Meanwhile, other activities outside the area, such as shopping and traffic, continued as normal.
