In 1998, AccorHotels opened the Sofitel Saigon Plaza, the group's first luxury hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Prior to that, in 1991, the group had opened the Sofitel Legend Metropole, located in the heart of Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Patrick Basset, Chief Operating Officer of AccorHotels for Upper Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and the Maldives, said: “For decades, Vietnam has become one of the world’s most attractive tourist destinations, drawing visitors to its majestic mountains, vibrant cities, and pristine white sand beaches. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City continue to modernize rapidly, while their colonial-era architecture and historical landmarks remain incredibly appealing.”

Currently, AccorHotels manages 28 hotels in Vietnam, 12 of which are in the luxury and upscale segments. The group plans to open 19 more hotels in the next two years, following the acquisition of Fairmont, Raffles, Swissôtel, and most recently, Mövenpick. It is known that AccorHotels will open a new hotel in Sapa in December. Although AccorHotels always focuses on developing services in popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, its strict management approach ensures that it will not negatively impact nature and the ecosystem.
