Located in northern Austria, the village of Hallstatt is surrounded by mountains on all sides, making it seem isolated from the outside world. Visitors can reach the village by train, bus, or car, with the train being the most popular option. The train stops at Hallstatt station, after which a boat trip continues to the village. As you cross the river, the fairytale village gradually unfolds before your eyes, small yet enchantingly beautiful.

Hallstatt village with its stunning location
Due to limited space, the houses in Hallstatt are built along the hillsides, precariously perched on slopes, or right next to the lake. Hallstatt maintains its enchanting medieval charm, but this is not merely a spiritual imitation, but rather a reflection of the village's rich history spanning many ages. Its ancient churches, wooden houses, and medieval castles with unique architecture create a captivating, old-world atmosphere that attracts tourists. Cars are not allowed in the town between May and October, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Over the centuries, the village has retained its original medieval charm.
However, that doesn't matter at all, as you can explore this small town in just about 30 minutes on foot. Strolling through the villages, visitors can experience life from millennia ago. The wooden architecture, the shops with thatched roofs, the old-fashioned brick walls, and the subtle integration with nature highlight the unique characteristics of the European countryside. Alongside these are narrow but clean streets, sprawling trees, closely packed houses nestled against the mountains, and windows overlooking a large lake.

Wooden houses adorned with charming climbing flowers.
Hallstatt is not only famous for its enchanting beauty, but it is also known as the prototype of a replica that was copied 1:1 by a Chinese mining company in Guangdong. However, this very fact only fuels curiosity about the original, attracting many tourists who come to admire it firsthand and experience the serene atmosphere of an ancient village nestled in a valley, surrounded by mountains and a lake – one of the most beautiful villages in the world.
