3 most crowded destinations during the Year of the Tiger

09/02/2022

During the 9 days of the Lunar New Year 2022, the whole country welcomed more than 6.2 million visitors, including nearly 500 international visitors who came to Vietnam under the "vaccine passport" program. A series of destinations "exploded" in the number of tourists, most of them in the provinces of Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, and An Giang.

The Year of the Tiger is a great opportunity for localities across the country to "revive" the tourism industry that has been severely affected by the pandemic. The number of domestic tourists has far exceeded the number of tourists in December 2021 (5.2 million) and is not much less than the number of domestic tourists in January 2020 (7.3 million) - the time before the Covid-19 pandemic became complicated; some places even had an increase in the number of tourists exceeding the 2020 Tet holiday.

During the 9-day Tet holiday, most tourists tend to travel to the southern provinces, the most surprising of which is Tay Ninh - which welcomed about 595,000 visitors, surpassing even the familiar tourist destinations of Lam Dong and Vung Tau. The sudden increase in visitors is partly due to the tourism stimulus policy of Tay Ninh province, which offers free entrance tickets to the Ba Den Mountain historical relic and scenic spot in 2022. The Ba Den Mountain cable car welcomed nearly 350,000 visitors, in addition to about 100,000 tourists coming here to climb.

An Giang also unexpectedly became one of the places that welcomed the most tourists. In the 5 days from January 30 to February 3 (28 to 3 of Tet), the province welcomed about 316,000 visitors, an increase of 58% over the same period last year.

The number of visitors to Lam Dong for sightseeing and relaxation also increased by about 300,000, of which the total number of visitors to Da Lat from January 31 to February 6 (29 to 6 of Tet) reached 166,000. Due to the large number of visitors, Da Lat's streets during this period were often congested. Mr. Le Anh Kiet, Head of the Da Lat Department of Culture and Information, said that the agency had to support the introduction of accommodation facilities in the city to more than 40 phone numbers who could not find rooms because of the above situation.

About 420,000 visitors came to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, of which Vung Tau city welcomed about 204,500 visitors, the number of visitors in the whole province increased by 81% compared to the same period in 2021. The central points in the city were also crowded with tourists from the 3rd day of Tet until the last days of the holiday.

Similarly, Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) welcomed 79,000 visitors, most of whom were from the islands in the South Island, the night market, the entertainment area Sun World Hon Thom, and Grand World.

Besides, tourism in some provinces and cities in the North and Central regions is also showing signs of improvement such as Nghe An with 160,000 visitors, Hanoi 105,000 visitors, Hoa Binh 84,500 visitors, Sa Pa (Lao Cai) 74,000 visitors, Thua Thien Hue 58,000 visitors,...

The high number of tourists during the Lunar New Year 2022 has brought in high tourism revenue for many localities: Ho Chi Minh City earned 3,100 billion VND (about 280,000 visitors); Khanh Hoa earned over 524 billion VND (about 98,000 visitors), Ha Giang earned over 159 billion VND (about 86,000 visitors)...
