Ly Son on a beautiful sunny day.

03/03/2014

After boarding the ferry to Ly Son from Sa Ky port, the wind and waves will carry visitors to a rather pristine and breathtakingly beautiful island region.

Arriving at Ly Son Island in mid-July 2013, after the garlic harvest was complete, we were greeted by lush green watermelon fields, and endless stretches of onion and sesame paddies. The vibrant green of the sea, the fields, and the wild grasses growing amidst the vast, boundless hills captivated travelers from the very first glance. The sea and island's green hues gave Ly Son a sense of abundance, with fertile fields and gardens, and it's certain that this place is not just home to ancient tombs.

The vast, endless valley is covered in the green of trees and plants.

Upon arriving in Ly Son, visitors will have no trouble finding motorbike taxis or guesthouses near the ferry terminal. While the guesthouses may not be fully equipped, they are clean, well-maintained, and have electricity and fresh water. After dropping off your luggage at the guesthouse, exploring the island by motorbike is a fascinating and enjoyable experience that no visitor to Ly Son should miss.

Starting with lush green watermelon fields, the large, elongated fruits lie scattered across the land. Here, you can be guided by kind, friendly, and hospitable locals to pick watermelons for free and eat them right there. The fresh green watermelons with bright red flesh and a sweet taste dispel the midday summer heat, and what's special is that the watermelons here are not sprayed with pesticides. The owner of the farm explains that because the price of watermelons is so low, they can't make a profit if they have to buy additional chemicals.

The road leading to Duc Pagoda

After passing through endless fields of onions and sesame, interspersed with roadside tombs, visitors will arrive at Hang Pagoda, Duc Pagoda, and Thoi Loi Mountain. The scenery here is vast and boundless. The expansive sea blends with the turquoise blue of the sky. Rolling hills are covered in lush green vegetation.

Like many other tourists, everyone bids farewell to Ly Son with a sense of longing and promises to return to visit the island someday. Hopefully, Ly Son will retain its captivating beauty, still covered in lush green that enchants travelers…
