A Delta Airlines plane experienced a fuel problem while flying over the Atlantic Ocean and had to turn back to New York.

According to View From The Wing, the incident occurred on July 25th. Delta Airlines flight DL9923, departing from New York-JFK Airport (USA) to Accra Airport (Ghana), flew over the Atlantic Ocean but had to turn back.

The flight was delayed the day before departure, reportedly due to the pilot's health problems. However, the return journey was no less difficult. After approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes of flying over the Atlantic, the captain announced that the Boeing 767 had experienced fuel issues and had to return to New York.

"It was terrifying to know the plane could run out of fuel even while we were in the middle of the ocean. We were told it would take about two hours to get back to New York," he said.

Ultimately, the plane returned safely to New York. The entire process, from departure to return, took approximately 5 hours. As soon as the plane landed, fire trucks and ambulances were on hand to deal with the incident.

The captain confirmed the incident resulted from a "fuel imbalance." Meanwhile, the airline also issued an official statement regarding the event.

"Flight DL9923 on July 25th, registered from JFK (New York) to Accra, returned to New JFK due to a technical issue. The aircraft landed safely and passengers experienced no problems. The safety and security of passengers and crew is Delta's number one priority."

Delta's customer support teams at JFK were immediately available to assist affected customers. We would like to offer our deepest apologies for the inconvenience and delays that have impacted our customers' schedules," the airline said in a statement.
