Fall in love with Old Havana

25/07/2016

Among the more than 35 countries Rehahn has visited, Cuba is one of the places the French photographer likes the most because of its old streets, old houses, classic cars, the strangely peaceful pace of life of the locals... to cigars - the "specialty" of the Caribbean island nation. Follow the world-famous photographer Rehahn to feel the love for Cuba after a year of opening up to the world.

In the past 8 years, I have visited Cuba 10 times. The long history, impressive architecture and culture of this country captivated me from the first time. For me, Cuba is one of the most “photogenic” countries in the world and the capital Havana is a destination that every photographer longs to visit. Strolling down each street, feeling the charm of each architectural work, I have captured the beauty of the city and its friendly people with what I consider my best photos.

The current capital Havana includes Old Habana, Vedado, and new suburban districts.

Considered the iconic city of classic cars, you can see classic American cars everywhere, from Oldsmobile Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, to Ford and Plymouth models. Car enthusiasts in Europe can spend thousands of US dollars to buy these cars. Yet, they are just a daily means of transportation on the streets of Cuba! Classic cars are so popular that Havana in particular and Cuba in general are known as a living classic car museum.

Time stood still as I strolled along the streets of Cuba, feeling lost between the past and the present. Heavily influenced by Moorish, Spanish and classical architecture, Havana is a perfect candidate for the title of the most architecturally diverse city in the world. Havana’s grandeur is evident even in its ruined buildings. I always find a special charm when wandering around these beautiful remains. The narrow streets and high balconies always leave a deep impression on tourists.

When it comes to cigars, there is no place in the world that can compare to Cuba. That is why I often relax with a cigar every time I come here. There is nothing better than sitting back in a chair, relaxing with a cigar and watching the people go by on the street.

Cuba is a land of smiles. Welcoming visitors from all over the world is a big smile. I am always surprised by the enthusiasm and friendliness of the people here. For me, the beautiful picture of life is drawn from the smallest things, maybe just dancing Salsa or enjoying a mojito, a typical "cocktail" that is only available in Cuba.

Many people who visit Cuba realize that music is one of the most important cultural aspects of the country. Most Cubans can sing or play some kind of musical instrument. Whenever music is played, they join in the rhythm. So stylish and so passionate!

Cuba is a country of many colors, from culture, architecture to people. With a special love for Cuba, I always want to come back here to feel more fully the beauty of this country.
