Specifically, there are three main methods for passengers to legally travel on the free train. The quickest method is using a chip-embedded Citizen Identity Card (CCCD). Passengers simply need to bring their CCCD card and scan it directly at the automatic ticket gate for the system to recognize and open the gate, allowing entry to the station. For tech-savvy young people, the HCMC Metro HURC app will be a powerful "assistant." On January 1st, 2026, the app will update with the "QR Reaching Out" feature. Users simply need to download the app, create an e-ticket using this function, and scan the QR code at the gate to freely experience the journey from District 1 to Thu Duc City.
In addition, at each station waiting area, the automated ticket kiosk system will be set up to issue free paper tickets containing QR codes. Passengers simply need to go to these machines, receive a ticket, and scan the code as usual.
The most important thing for every train passenger to remember is that this program is only valid on January 1, 2026. A "golden" note from the operator is that if passengers still choose to purchase tickets using the usual cash or bank card payment methods, the system will automatically deduct the fee according to the current price list, and the company will not issue any refunds. On January 1st, the entire line will serve a total of 276 trains, ensuring a high frequency so that passengers do not have to wait long. Trains will run throughout the night with 20 additional trains operating continuously from 0:30 AM to 2:00 AM. After a short break, from 5:30 AM on the same day, the system will continue operating 256 trains until 11:30 PM, creating the most favorable conditions for visiting relatives and sightseeing within the city.
