From December 29th, Vietnamese airlines began selling tickets to five countries and territories: South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, and Taiwan. Specifically, Vietnam Airlines will resume commercial flights on the Ho Chi Minh City - Bangkok (Thailand) route from January 8th with a frequency of two flights per week. Currently, passengers can purchase tickets for these flights on the airline's website, at ticket offices, and through official agents.
According to the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority, passengers entering Vietnam must ensure they meet epidemic prevention requirements such as having a certificate of negative test result for nCoV, a vaccination certificate/vaccine passport, or a certificate of recovery from Covid-19.
In the last two months of 2021, Thailand welcomed over 350,000 tourists through its Test and Go program, which allows vaccinated individuals to enter the country without quarantine.
With the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the demand for travel among independent travelers, especially Vietnamese expatriates returning home, is very high after two years of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In December 2021, many independent Vietnamese tourists wanting to visit Thailand had to take a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore, with a 12-hour layover before arriving in Bangkok, a very difficult and costly process.
Now, with the reopening of commercial flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok in January 2022, opportunities for trade, travel, and economic recovery will be created after a period of disruption due to pandemic control measures. Before the pandemic, Vietnam was a major source market for Thai tourism.
Vietnamese airlines have increased flight frequencies and opened new round-trip commercial routes to connect the most attractive destinations between the two countries, such as Da Nang, Hanoi, Cam Ranh, and Ho Chi Minh City, with Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket.
