Vietnam will pilot the reopening of international flights from January 1, 2022.

11/12/2021

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has approved the plan to restore regular international passenger flights to destinations with high safety coefficients. The pilot program will begin next year, January 1, 2022.

Initially, Vietnam will restore regular international passenger flights to destinations with high safety coefficients, including Beijing/Guangzhou (China), Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), Taipei (Taiwan - China), Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, Vientiane (Laos), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and San Francisco/Los Angeles (USA), based on guidance from the Ministry of Health on health measures to prevent the spread of disease among incoming passengers, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and smooth operation.

In this regard, the Ministry of Health is urgently issuing health guidelines for people entering the country on regular international commercial flights, widely soliciting opinions from experts, businesses, and the public. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to lead and coordinate with the Ministry of Health to negotiate and reach an agreement with countries and territories on mutual recognition of "vaccine passports," prioritizing areas in the pilot phase.

In addition, the Ministries of Health, Public Security, and Information and Communications will immediately agree on and announce a unified health declaration software applicable to air travel to facilitate passenger declarations, airline operations, and health monitoring, control, and contact tracing of incoming travelers.

In addition, relevant units need to step up communication efforts to ensure that people understand the purpose and significance of restoring regular international flights, while also ensuring effective and safe disease prevention measures.
