According to information from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, after evaluating 260 registration dossiers from 60 countries, the World Tourism Organization recognized the rich and outstanding cultural and natural resources of Tan Hoa village (Quang Binh province), along with the village's commitments and actions in compliance with the three main pillars of sustainable tourism development.
After that, the World Tourism Organization officially recognized Tan Hoa village as one of the best tourist villages in the world.
Tan Hoa is a mountainous commune of Minh Hoa district, about 8km southeast of Quy Dat town center. Tan Hoa is endowed by nature with many majestic landscapes and unique cultural features.
However, with its unique terrain, Tan Hoa is often considered a "flood center" area, often submerged in floodwater for many days in a row.

After the historic flood in 2010, in 2011, people of Tan Hoa commune had the initiative to make rafts to "live with the flood".
In recent years, Tan Hoa residents have participated in local tourism activities, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. With the support of businesses, Tan Hoa has become a climate-adaptive tourist village with unique and distinctive tourism products.
Mr. Ho An Phong - Vice Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee - said being honored as one of the best tourist villages in the world is just the first step in developing tourism in Tan Hoa.
"This prestigious award is an opportunity for Tan Hoa to step out into the world and gradually become a bright spot of Vietnamese tourism. However, in the process of tourism development, Tan Hoa needs to preserve the cultural identity of Vietnamese villages and not destroy the green living space," said Mr. Phong.
The Best Tourist Village Awards is a global initiative of the World Tourism Organization to highlight villages where tourism preserves and promotes rural and community-based values, products and lifestyles.
The initiative also recognizes the contribution of villages to sustainable development goals through tourism.
In addition, Tan Hoa was once chosen as the setting for the Hollywood movie Kong: Skull Island.
