Local characteristics in a Hue-style house.
Mr. Huynh Cong Man, the homeowner and also the designer and builder of Leranda, was born and raised in Hue City but later worked in the United States for many years.
Every holiday, when he gets to return to his hometown, Mr. Man always makes time to explore his homeland with his small family. “Having been born and raised in Hue, I feel a lot of appreciation for the way of life the people of Hue used to have, and I want to share the peace and lifestyle of this land with tourists. Therefore, I decided to gather and collect the interesting things from my memories to create Leranda as it is today,” the owner said.

The homeowner built this garden house, reflecting the culture and architecture of the ordinary people of Hue from the past, drawing inspiration from his childhood memories.
Mr. Manh said that his house used to have a veranda (defined in French as an outdoor veranda or patio), and every time he came home from school, he loved sitting there playing with his dogs and cats. Unlike a porch, which is only built permanently in front of the house, a veranda can be built around the house, arranged to suit the design of the house.
Most traditional Hue garden houses have a veranda surrounding the entire house. The veranda is one of the interesting traditions in a tropical climate with abundant rain and hot sunshine like Hue. Based on this idea, he wanted to create a house that is both distinctive and as comfortable as possible for its occupants.

When people think of Hue, they often picture garden houses with ancient, tranquil, and lush green spaces, especially gardens and ponds… It is these elements that allow Leranda to give guests the feeling of staying in a house with a distinctly Hue style, experiencing the harmony between people and the surrounding nature.
Explaining the intriguing name of the house, Mr. Huynh Cong Man said: “My little daughter's name is Lily. First, I wanted to create a courtyard, a veranda for her to share beautiful memories from the past. Besides that, Lily will welcome friends who love Hue to visit. That's why I combined the letter L and veranda to form Leranda.”

The interior design blends modern and traditional styles. The combination of the dominant white and yellow tones of the walls, the wood tones of the furniture, and the subtle patterns of the curtains and bedding create a modern yet light feel. The details of the beds, wardrobes, tables, and chairs are modernized, combining old and new styles, while the dark wood flooring offers guests a familiar, traditional touch.

“I wanted the house to have a unique and distinctive design, yet still retain the characteristic cultural and architectural features of the ordinary people of Hue in the past. Therefore, the harmonious layout is clearly reflected in elements such as the porch, wooden pillars, wooden doors, yellow walls, tiled floors, and the planting of trees typical of Hue. I also incorporated local materials like bricks, bamboo, thatched roofs, lotus ponds, and water lilies… to enhance the house's local character,” the homeowner further shared.
