Chichen Itza

Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic of all Mayan ruins, Chichen Itza welcomes over 1.5 million visitors annually. Famous as one of the largest ancient cities, Chichen Itza means "At the mouth of the Itza well". The most prominent feature of the Chichen Itza complex is the 24-meter-tall Kukulcan Pyramid, recently voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

You can walk, cycle, or be driven around to explore Cobá in a day.
Tulum

The Tulum archaeological site offers a different experience, as this ancient city was once a trading port for jade and turquoise. El Rey

Visitors can easily visit El Rey in a few hours and still get back in time for Cancún to enjoy the evening. There isn't much information available about the architecture here; however, you can hire a tour guide to hear stories about the customs and beliefs of the ancient Maya.
Xelha

Xelha holds a significant place in Mayan history. Archaeologists believe the site bears many hallmarks of Mayan fertility worship. Xelha was used as a gateway to other sites where rituals were performed. Recently, an eco-park has been established, allowing for a full-day visit to Xelha.
