Stunning Wisteria 'Tunnel'

04/03/2014

Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi prefecture, Japan is known as a romantic paradise in the land of the rising sun with thousands of wisteria flowers blooming every year.

Wisteria flowers, also known as Fuji flowers or wisteria, are a symbol of eternal love in Japanese culture. For a wisteria tree to bloom, people will have to take care of it for many years, just like nurturing the love of a couple. When the flowers bloom, they have gentle colors, pure beauty, especially under the spring sunlight.

Different from the usual way of displaying flowers, at Ashikaga Park, people have built a "tunnel" on the ground, made of iron frames and wooden trunks to support the giant, colorful wisteria trellis.

The scene of tiny flowers of different colors gently hanging down from the dome is like a paradise on earth. This place is chosen by many couples to walk hand in hand.

Not only a place to sightsee and enjoy flowers, Ashikaga Tunnel is also an effective place to avoid the sun in the summer because the road is always covered with flowers. In the spring, the road is always crowded with professional and amateur photographers coming here to hunt for photos, or young people coming to take photos with romantic concepts.

Wisteria flowers usually bloom in late April and early May with the main colors being purple, pink, and white, placed alternately in each color compartment. They are planted interspersed with woody plants to create a support.

In Japan, there is even a Fuji - Wisteria flower festival held at the end of April, where visitors can immerse themselves in the gentle colors of the flowers in a breathtakingly beautiful flower paradise.

Wisteria flowers grow in clusters, hanging down in long vines 80-100cm, floating and swaying in the wind, carrying a light, airy fragrance. Wisteria-scented perfume is also very popular, not only in Japan.
