On May 26, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said international tourists, including Vietnamese, can come to Japan from June 10.
The Prime Minister's announcement came after Japan began testing package tours for international tourists on May 24. The decision comes after the Japanese government said last week it would test allowing small group tours with visitors from the US, Australia, Thailand and Singapore this month.
From June 1, Japan will increase the number of people entering the country from 10,000 people/day to 20,000 people/day. Countries with low Covid-19 infection rates will not have to be tested upon entry and will have their risk warning level for infectious diseases reduced.
Japan has revised its border control measures to allow package tours from 36 countries and regions where the Covid-19 situation is relatively stable, including the UK, Spain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia.

The Japanese government will base on the Covid-19 epidemic situation of countries around the world to classify them into three groups: blue list, yellow list and red list to decide on entry procedures. Vietnam is currently in the yellow list and to enter without quarantine, it is necessary to have 3 doses of vaccine and a negative PCR test before leaving the country.
The country's prime minister said the strict border controls were necessary to give the country time to vaccinate its citizens and ensure proper health care. Restrictions will be eased from June.
Although many countries in the world have almost completely relaxed anti-Covid-19 measures, including wearing masks, Japan is still cautious as new infections in the country tend to stagnate with more than 10,000 cases in 1 day.
Japan closed its borders due to Covid-19 since April 2020. In 2019, the number of two-way visitors between Vietnam and Japan was the highest ever, with more than 1.4 million arrivals (up 18.9% compared to 2018), of which Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached 495,000 (up 27.3%).
