On May 26, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that international tourists, including those from Vietnam, could travel to Japan starting June 10.
The Prime Minister's announcement comes after Japan began testing the reopening of package tours to international visitors on May 24th. This decision follows the Japanese government's announcement last week that it would test allowing small group tours with tourists from the United States, Australia, Thailand, and Singapore this month.
Starting June 1st, Japan will increase the number of people allowed to enter the country from 10,000 per day to 20,000 per day. For countries with low COVID-19 infection rates, testing will not be required upon entry, and the risk level for the infectious disease will be lowered.
Japan has revised its border control measures to continue accepting package tours from 36 countries and regions where the Covid-19 situation is relatively stable. These countries include: the United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia.

The Japanese government will classify countries into three groups based on the COVID-19 situation worldwide: blue list, yellow list, and red list, to determine entry procedures. Vietnam is currently in the yellow list, and to enter without quarantine, applicants must have received all three doses of the vaccine and have a negative PCR test result before departure.
The country's Prime Minister stated that the strict border control policy implemented recently was necessary to allow time for vaccination of the population and to ensure appropriate medical care. Restrictions will be eased from June onwards.
Although many countries around the world have almost completely eased their COVID-19 prevention measures, including mask-wearing, Japan remains cautious, with new infections trending sideways at just over 10,000 cases per day.
Japan closed its borders due to Covid-19 from April 2020. In 2019, the number of two-way visitors between Vietnam and Japan reached its highest level ever, with over 1.4 million arrivals (an 18.9% increase compared to 2018), of which Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached 495,000 (a 27.3% increase).
