Lao Cai
When talking about cloud-hunting paradises in Northern Vietnam, Y Tý (Lao Cai) is the most familiar place, with its mountain peaks and roads covered in clouds all year round.
Y Tý
Visitors to Y Tý in the last months of the year have an even better chance of catching sea of clouds than ever before. The most beautiful and cloud-filled destinations include the road from A Lù through Ngải Thầu, the Y Tý "park" in Choản Thèn village, climbing Ky Quan San, Lảo Thẩn, etc.
Bach Moc Luong Tu (or Ky Quan San)
Bach Moc Luong Tu (or Ky Quan San) is a mountain peak located at an altitude of 3,046 m, the second highest in Lao Cai, after Fansipan. Once a desolate mountain peak used for livestock farming and agriculture by the Hmong people, in recent years Bach Moc Luong Tu has become an attractive destination for mountain climbing enthusiasts and those who enjoy admiring the sea of clouds.
Sa Pa
One easier spot to admire the clouds in Lao Cai is the town of Sa Pa, where early mornings and late afternoons at the end of the year are filled with swirling mist and clouds covering the surrounding mountain peaks, interspersed with the early morning chill. If you visit Sa Pa, a day trip hiking or taking the cable car to the summit of Fansipan is definitely not to be missed. During the end of the year, riding the cable car and stopping at each station along the way to the highest peak of Fansipan, visitors will be treated to a breathtaking view of the dense, white sea of clouds.
Yen Bai
Ta Chi Nhu
Ta Chi Nhu, the highest peak in Yen Bai province, stands at 2,979 meters, making it the 7th highest peak in Vietnam. Located in Xa Ho commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province, it was first conquered by tourists in 2013 and is known as the "heaven of clouds on earth" because from its summit, it is always covered in a sea of clouds. The trek to Ta Chi Nhu typically takes 2 days and 1 night, making it ideal for weekend trips for busy people.
Ta Xua
Ta Xua Peak, at 2,865 meters, is located on the border of Tram Tau district (Yen Bai province) and Bac Yen district (Son La province), and is one of the highest mountains in Vietnam. Surrounded by high mountain ranges, Ta Xua is often covered in dense, swirling clouds, creating a vast sea of white clouds. The best time to see these clouds is from October to April of the following year.
Moc Chau (Son La)
Hang Kia - Pa Co
Hang Kia - Pà Cò is located 40 km from the center of Moc Chau town towards Hanoi. Traveling along National Highway 6 from Moc Chau, visitors turn off at Pà Cò market and continue for another 7 km to reach the cloud-watching spot. The best time for cloud watching is early morning during the last months of the year. When the weather is fine (or after a rain), a vast sea of white clouds often appears. Visitors can combine cloud photography with visiting the butterfly flower fields, wooden swings, or other scenic spots recently created by locals for tourism.
Da Lat
In the last months of the year, if you visit Da Lat, don't miss the cloud-watching spots such as Trok Hill, Da Phu, Thien Phuc Duc, Liang Biang Mountain, and Cau Dat tea plantation... While Trok Hill is a popular location for wedding photos, Da Phu Hill and Thien Phuc Duc are often visited by backpackers camping overnight to watch the sea of clouds in the early morning. When going to Liang Biang Mountain, tourists often choose to rent a Jeep to take them to the radar peak or hike to Ong Peak to chase the clouds.
Da Lat
Cau Dat tea hill is also a popular check-in spot for many young people, as it now has many additional attractions such as wooden bridges and wooden walkways. Unlike other cloud-watching mountains and hills, in Cau Dat, visitors can admire the sea of white clouds swirling around the lush green tea hills, and in the early mornings, they can witness locals picking tea leaves.
