Dreams during the pandemic

"Because life is so quiet these days, our dreams suddenly become so vivid."

When Covid-19 first emerged, many people around the world began having unforgettable and somewhat frightening dreams. We interviewed 20 people about what they had dreamed about.

Graphic designer Marcie LaCerte, along with colleagues Stevie Borrello and Meghan McDonough, produced a film over 5 minutes long titled...The Invisible Monster and Tomato SoupThis book recounts the experiences shared by 20 people around the world about strange dreams, believed to be related to Covid-19.

This short film was conceived after Meghan read an article about people having "strange dreams about the pandemic," and they began working on it in the spring of 2020. Meghan and Stevie themselves spent the summer gathering interviews and writing the script, then had Marcie create the visuals.

After months of working through evenings and weekends, the video—a short film—was finally completed earlier this year. The background music by composer Hinako Omori blended perfectly with Marcie's cheerful, colorful visuals, creating a vibrant and lively film.

"I guess that's how the brain is trying to comfort itself, even if the method is a bit confusing and sometimes a little scary," said one of the 20 participants.
