Hundreds of people came to get numbered tickets and sat waiting for their turn to buy them at the ticket counter. Ticket sales started at 8 a.m., but many people had arrived early in the morning for fear of having to wait a long time.
Thanks to innovations in booking and payment methods, VNR's ticket sales for Tet 2025 are more accessible, the procedures are faster, and the practice of fake reservations and ticket speculation, as seen in previous years, is minimized.
Despite the increase in ticket prices, many people still choose to return home for Tet by train.
To ensure convenience and speed for passengers purchasing train tickets, VNR has planned to start ticket sales earlier than usual and organized early communication to ensure passengers are well-informed. At all railway stations, VNR has increased staff on duty to guide passengers in obtaining queue numbers and filling out ticket purchase information on the spot, and ticket sales call centers are operating at full capacity.
For passengers purchasing tickets online, the number of tickets sold increased significantly, without any network congestion. Notably, VNR discontinued the "buy tickets, reserve seats, pay later" feature, allowing buyers 30 minutes to complete the payment after booking. Each passenger can purchase a maximum of 10 outbound and 10 return tickets.
This year, the railway industry is offering many incentives and changes to the ticket purchasing process to make it more convenient for people.
During this period, there are 7 pairs of Thong Nhat passenger trains between Hanoi and Saigon stations and 13 pairs of regional passenger trains running regularly. Compared to Tet 2024, Tet 2025 differs in that the railway industry will not sell extra seats; the type of carriages will be changed (11 seated carriages will be converted into sleeper carriages). At the same time, the "buy tickets, reserve seats, pay later" feature when passengers purchase tickets online through ticket sales websites will be discontinued.
According to Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, during the Tet holiday period (from January 28th to January 31st, 2025, i.e., from the 29th day of the 12th lunar month to the 3rd day of Tet), the company will operate additional train services from Saigon to Da Nang, Tam Ky, Dieu Tri, Nha Trang, etc., and vice versa, to serve passengers traveling during the spring festival.
