Following Typhoon No. 3, the Hanoi-Lao Cai railway line, a vital artery connecting the capital with the Northwest region, suffered severe damage. Hundreds of points along the route were deeply flooded and severely eroded, completely paralyzing traffic. Images of warped railway tracks and swept-away bridges left a profound impression of the devastating power of nature.
In response to the situation, the railway industry quickly mobilized personnel, machinery, and equipment to mitigate the damage. Engineers and workers toiled day and night, braving the rain and wind to repair tracks and bridges. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the railway line was reopened on September 15th.
Passenger trains on the Hanoi – Lao Cai route will resume service after being temporarily suspended for several days due to the impact of Typhoon No. 3.
However, due to the extensive damage, many sections of the track remain weak and unsuitable for high-speed train travel. Trains have to move slowly, at speeds of only about 10-15 km/h, significantly extending travel times. This has caused considerable difficulties for passengers, especially those with urgent travel needs.
Despite numerous obstacles, the railway industry is making every effort to fully overcome the consequences of the storms and floods, ensuring absolute safety for passengers. Relevant units are urgently completing the remaining items to bring the Hanoi - Lao Cai railway line back to normal operation as soon as possible.
According to the published schedule, train SP3 departs Hanoi station at 22:00 and arrives at Lao Cai station at 5:55; train SP4 departs Lao Cai station at 21:30 and arrives at Hanoi station at 5:25. However, due to delays at certain points, the trains will depart earlier, expected by 30-60 minutes.
However, the journey will take longer than usual, from 30-60 minutes, to ensure safety.
When specific train schedules are available, the railway company will notify passengers via the phone number registered when purchasing tickets.
Currently, the price of a ticket for the SP3/SP4 train ranges from 280,000 to 420,000 VND per ticket per trip, depending on the type of seat, carriage, departure date, and direction of travel.
The railway also sells shuttle bus tickets from Lao Cai station to destinations in Sapa within a 2km radius of the Stone Church, or vice versa, at a price of 55,000 VND per ticket per trip. Passengers can purchase shuttle bus tickets when buying train tickets directly or online.
